Don Crego and Mari Verkuyl -- Out of the Fire
Out of the Fire was created to combine the talent of two artist,
Don Crego and Mari Verkuyl.
It brings the talent of these artist together in a creative business,
together with a life long commitment of these soul mates.
Don's talent finds himself at the potters wheel experimenting
with form and shape. Experimenting in the late 1970s with ceramics
with low fire preforms, he wanted to find an area to explore
in a more creative field. Throwing on the wheel allows him
a creative outlet for his expression of his choice.
Being a printer and graphic designer by trade, color
and shades were important aspects of his artistic expressions.
This lead him to experiment with glaze and colors he could achieve
in the world of pottery. His plans for experimentation in raku
and crystal glazes should bring a fresh supply of artistic pottery to share with others.
Mari started early in life, as a child, excelling in classes
where art was a part of the curriculum. Taking drawing and drafting
classes in High School and College in the hope of becoming a professional artist.
This talent went on hold for other paths in life including motherhood.
In the late 1970s, encouraged by other potters, she took classes in pottery.
Finding and market for her creations, she started a small studio
in San Jose California. Again, having to place her artistic dreams on hold,
moved to Colorado. After several other careers that never tapped her true talent,
and with encouragement from Don, she started to experiment with clay.
A feel for the clay lead her in the direction of hand built clay creations.
Both artist are excited about their future with pottery and plan
to continue the experimentation in the exploration in form and glazes.
